Compact cars in India have major market presence and it continues to grow like never before. Major Indian car makers have always felt that this segment was the one that can really inflate the sales volumes and eventually allowing them a strong foundation for the future. Indian automotive giants Maruti Suzuki and Tata motors are the current leaders in this segment but there has been strong competition from new entrants like the Volkswagen Group, muktocampus Honda, Chevrolet and Hyundai to name a few. In terms of comfort, value for money, styling and features, the small car segment has had a lot of improvement. This has also lead to the creation of an altogether new segment on small cars called as the luxury hatchback segment and it is being well received by the Indians.
This ever increasing demand for small cars has also resulted in companies going overboard to not only bringing newer models to the Indian small car market, but also constantly think over face-lifting their current fleet in the market. Experts believe that this segment in India is booming and is set to rise further. Not only are the existing car makers constantly thinking over giving it their all, but also companies manufacturing entry level and luxury sedans have dived into this segment. There only used to be Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Hyundai in this segment earlier but apart from these, every other car maker in India has cars for this segment. Some of the best selling cars in this segment are Maruti Alto, Maruti Swift, Tata Indica, Hyundai i10 and i20. Newer entrants have also created buzz with their competitive pricing and additional features. Some of the cars that have recently joined this segment are Volkswagen Polo, Ford Figo, Honda Jazz, Toyota Etios and Chevrolet Beat. All these cars have been great in their own rights and have kept each other on their toes. Having such cut-throat competition is always good for the customers. The Indian small car market continues to get flooded with small cars, fortunately there are buyers too.
New car that are being launched in this segment boast of features like anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, airbags and many other utility features that were never there before. Maruti is the leader in the Indian car market followed by Hyundai which has cars competing with Maruti in every segment that the latter caters to. The car market in India is experiencing a phase where car manufacturers are constantly innovating and are aggressive when it comes to new car launches so as to outdo one another in satisfying the Indian customer. And from the consumer point of view, it is no longer a case of being monotonous and selecting a conventional car. Indians now, like to experiment and are willing to go for the best without having to compromise due to financial constraints.
